Aug 14, 2018  Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Android 9.0 Pie with OneUI. This new version of Android for the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is still in beta which means that it has not been rolled out for all the S9 users, this ROM is still under testing. Despite all this, there are a lot of new features with this new ROM which is working totally fine.

Update, February 12, 2019 (12:59 PM ET): If you are currently in the One UI beta program on your Samsung Galaxy Note 8, you should soon see a new update come your way (via SamMobile). The Android 9 Pie update will be the fourth beta update for the Note 8.

The update weighs 578MB and carries version number N950FXXU5ZSB2. The changelog is fairly small, with the biggest update being a fix for a problem with editing hotspot names.

With the changelog so small, it’s looking very much like the stable Pie rollout for the Note 8 is right around the corner. It could be that Samsung will meet its goal to roll it out by the end of February. Keep your fingers crossed!

Original article, February 7, 2019 (12:51 PM ET): If you own the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, — and are OK using beta software — there is a new update to Android 9 Pie available for your device. As of today, the third beta version of Samsung’s One UI is available for Note 8 owners who are ready to take on a little risk in order to get some tasty Pie goodness (via SamMobile).

Android 9 Pie update tracker: When will your phone get it? (Updated November 19)

Google announced Android 9 Pie on August 6, 2018, and began rolling it out to Pixel phones the same day. These include the Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, and Pixel 2 XL. But what about …

Since the third beta of Android 9 Pie is rolling out now to the Note 8, we can expect a stable version to launch fairly soon. Samsung’s roadmap lists the Note 8 as receiving a stable Pie update in February. While that seems unlikely, its totally plausible — but March 2019 might be a safer bet.

The update weighs 679.73MB and arrives as firmware version N950FXXU5ZSB1. The update addresses a few fixed problems, including the fingerprint sensor not working with Samsung Pay, lag when you press the recent apps button, music automatically playing when you close Samsung Music from the notifications panel, the Air Command icon not showing up when you remove the S Pen, and more.

If you are on the beta software already and haven’t yet been prompted about the update, head to Settings > Software update > Software manual update to see if you can nudge it along.

As with the beta launches for the Note 9 and Galaxy S9, Samsung’s Pie software is skinned over with its brand new One UI. You can read more about how One UI changes the Android experience here, or click here to read our review of what the software is like.

If you have a Note 8 and are in the beta program, let us know how you fare in the comments below.
